ArcelorMittal introduces today the new AZ 13-700 range which is the profile that was missing in the existing AZ-700 range. We are convinced that this is excellent news for our customers, but on the other hand, it is also time to say goodbye to the AZ 13 range. It has served for more than 20 years, and though some customers might miss it in the future, we are quite confident that the newcomer will meet their expectations.
The AZ range was developed in the late 1980’s, and the first AZ section was riven into the ground in 1990. A few months later, the AZ 13 was launched. These 630 and 670 mm wide sheet piles were the first Z-piles to be rolled with a Larssen interlock, which was, and still is, a challenge for any hot rolled sheet pile manufacturer. Additionally, the unmatched width offered new opportunities for Z-piles: due to their favourable ratio (section modulus / weight), they were more cost-effective than regular U-piles. And the market recognized this advantage: very quickly, the new AZ sheet piles found their way into specific applications, even in countries where U-piles dominated the market.
In 2004 a new era started with the AZ-700 range, which is even more cost-effective than the previous AZ range. Consequently, the old AZ range will subsequently be phased out and be replaced by the new sheet piles sections.
Please note that the rolling mill will honour its commitments and manufacture the AZ 13 for projects that have already been booked, but for all new upcoming projects, we suggest to switch to the AZ 13-700 or AZ 13-770, which are equivalent and yet lighter sections.
We will revise our catalogue accordingly, but for the time being, you can find the section properties of the new AZ 13-700 range in the flyer below.
